are forming new partnerships for the very technology industry companies that are beginning and have been locating here in san francisco to help us create the new workforce. because if we don't can certainly create that workforce it'll be created by somebody else for other people. so we formed a training row graham in 19 san francisco residents of diverse backgrounds to the jobs in the tech sector called tech sf. they've already began to enroll their graduates into the very technology company that are successfully locating here in the city. as i said earlier, were making progress in our public school system. test scores are at an all-time high in truancy is down in our school district, where one of the highest performance entities in the state broadly satisfied with that because we know ours middle schools are not good enough. were going to get the good were going to get to parental engagement in our middle schools. that's where the downfall that the two lindsay is at. we will help them to exceed. we will deliver even more resources and tax. in fact, this year the city of san francis

burdened department undergoing this great technological change. why has it taken so long? when can a permanent director be in place? there is a big backlog of unresolved building violations. and you, saw the press about 308 turk regarding these. and the district attorney office has even formed a special multidepartment committee. something in the process is broken and stuck and there is something that needs to be fixed and abatement appeals board this morning heard two sets of notice of violations dating to 2009. and so, we also noted all of the tao*uls tools available have not been used, enforcement has not been consistent and fees and costs consistently collected. this sends a dangerous message, and could smack of favoritism or that those who could afford the attorneys can get better treatment than those who can't. >> the excellent technology will only provide its benefits which are many, if the people are fully trained and the system is fully embraced by management. all management. and what where we sympathize, the department has been so busy keeping its head above water, that a

books, more media, wonderful technology, wi-fi access. if you envision this space and if you look that way you have a wonderful adult area. as you walk in from the mason street side, you have an amazing teen center for all the young adults. absolutely. yelling back here, [ applause ] . that was our deputy city librarian, what can we say? a wonderful space for children. this north beach library serves over 30,000 diverse residents and it's way overdue to have a state-of-the-art library. clean it's really a true partnership with our city departments and i want to thank our dpw folks and their team. mindy, lena, fantastic work in managing this project. technology and app are being use ford all kinds of purposes. often you can't find the stations and maybe having -- use the technology to know where drink tap stations are might be a helpful advance as well. and lastly, i think the cultural change that was brought up by christina and others, it's an education process. so, i'm really glad that it's starting early with the child care centers and in the k-12 system and teachers are using great curriculum as provided by dph and puc as well. ~ grade curriculum this has been a wonderful hearing, but i'm hoping it's just the beginning as we look at equity and social justice and the privatization of water and making san francisco a leader in this area so that we have a healthier san francisco and communities for everyone. but thanks for giving us so much time as well for this issue. i know there are many others before us. i'd like to urge us to continue this item to the call of the chair. >> okay, thank you very much. all right, colleagues, you've heard the request. supervisor mar would like to continue this to the call of the chair. >> so

in technology. i have my entire life. i work in enterprise software. what people would definitely call a techie. i'm wearing formula retail now. i'm a capitalist. i have grown up to believe that way. i have message -- majored in economics. i'm here to oppose jack spade in the neighborhood. i took a walk and ended up walking down grand street. it's quintessential san francisco. it's beautiful, there is not one recognizable chain formula store there on that entire stretch from green all the way to broadway. i have so many friends in the mission and i have known andrew mckinley for a very long time and gave money to support adobe to stay where they are. unfortunately that didn't have happen. i would like to see this corridor. sasha, i feel for us. it's not a very good area right now. unfortunately, i don't think this is going to help. the beauty and grace that's happened in the valencia street corridor was done with money. the same can be done on 16th street. thank you for your time. >> thank you, next speaker, please. >> my name is lauren. thank you so much for your patience tonight

many of you have heard about the technology component and also a strand of work that we are working on leadership development and school reform and support and so this year, at mlk, we are working with parters in school innovation and a small grant with each for america, the partner was in similar ways that we are doing with the other schools with the new teacher center around building capacity, to support and retain, our highly qualified teachers. and so this is a non-traditional, very small contract with tfa that actually is about helping us change the paradyme, the tsa board asked me to come and speak on richard's behalf, probably six or seven months ago and talked about how they want to shift the relationship that they have with the districts from just staffing people with tsa teachers to really looking at how they can be a supportive partner around all of the leadership development activities for the teachers and this was an opportunity for us with the sales force grant, who also really wanted to promote the partnership work and look at different ways of partnering with tsa and wh

helping me help all the middle schools in san francisco get modernized. that is, to get technology, get wi-fi service, get computer tablets to the teachers, to of course, our principal. to help with the modernization of this school so that you, as students, and also as parents, can actually get a lot more science done, a lot more math done. a lot more engineering done. and become even more skilled because some of you, in fact, i see somebody here that's going to be the mayor of san francisco get somebody in this crowd is going to be the next mayor. how do you like that? do you want my job?
